How It Began...
For as long as I can remember, I've always known that I wanted build a future in music. Growing up, I have always been an adventurous spirit who doesn't ever shy away from new experiences. Throughout my childhood I have taken part in many different clubs and activities such as ballet, theatre, trampolining, musicals, art (drawing) street dance, swimming, tennis, athletics, film studies... but through it all, I've always had a passion for music. I took part in choirs and an orchestra for 5+ years and always had a hunger for learning new instruments. Music has always been the one thing that I could connect with the most, that felt like home. It was the easiest way for me to be able to express how I feel in the moment without necessarily needing words.

I am always grateful for my time as a member of an orchestra and a jazz band because it has given me incredible opportunities such as performing along side the NYO (National Youth Orchestra) at the Royal Albert Hall, and allowed me to travel to Ireland for the first time to witness mesmerising performances from other well-known orchestral groups and ensembles. Moreover, I was even blessed with the once in a lifetime opportunity of performing instant of Her Majesty The Queen!

In the music world, there’s no standing still. You must constantly strive to evolve and tour with the purpose of offering something unique to devoted fans and followers. They find inspiration wherever they look and channel whatever moves them into their music. Therefore, my future goal is to be able to travel the world and be able to touch as many people's souls through my music. I want to be a voice for those who feel unheard and a helping hand for thise who feel alone and misunderstood.

Why give the name "JeySea", you ask?

Well, my initials are "J.C." as my name is Jessica Costa, but I've always felt like "J.C.". would be too generic. Therefore I wanted to change it by experimenting with how it's spelt and which option would best suit me.

My family have always called me "Je" whilst my mother would call me "Jessie", but spell it with a "y" at the end instead of "ie". So I put those together to make "Jey". I'm from Portugal, and I've always felt like the beach and the sea has always felt like my place of peace. As a result, this inspired me to have "Sea" as a part of my name. Like the waves, I also hope to continue to travel on this musical journey of growth.
Life On Stage
Growing up, I have always looked up to artists such as Adele, Ed Sheeran and Alicia Keys. All artists who have started their musical journey with very limited things, on their own, and regardless they were able to grow and become as huge as they are today through consistent hard work and dedication. Alicia Keys is not only a performer but also a producer and I've aspired my musical journey through her because I also want to be able to become a sucessful independent artist.

I have always been a shy girl when it came to performing on a stage - well, not always. I believe I was about 9 or 10 years old when I decided to take a part in a talent show in my primary school. It was the first time I ever sang infant of ANYBODY, let alone the whole school. For this performance I decided to pour my heart out through Bruno Mars' song "Grenade". Even though the audience were really supportive and positively surprised by my ability to sing, there was one judge (or should I say, teacher) on the panel who didn't quite like it. She told me that I should think of pursuing something else for my future instead, which I remember vividly til this day. From then, my confidence dropped significantly, that I stopped singing for the next 4 years as I didn't believe I was good enough. However, now I turn that doubt and fear into motivation. Who would've thought?

Over the course of the last 6 years of my life, I was blessed with the opportunity of watching live performances of incredible artists onto of being a part of performances throughout my educational years. Shows from artists such as:
- Sol Da Caparica (Music Festival in Portugal) to watch Portuguese artists David Carreira and Anselmo Ralph
- Taylor Swift: Reputation Tour (featuring Camila Cabello, Charlie XCX and Robbie Williams) at the Wembley Stadium
- Craig David: TS5 Tour (featuring KSI) at the O2 Arena
- Rosalia: Motomami Tour at the O2 Arena
- Michael Buble: Higher Tour with a live mini orchestra at the O2 Arena
Kicks behind a Kit
I've always loved learning new instruments! I believe that it all began from being a part of an Orchestra as a clarinet player for so many years. Although my main focus has always been to improve and grow as a vocalist, throughout my musical journey I jumped from playing the violin, to the clarinet, to the piano, to the acoustic guitar, to the bass and drums (very recently).
From a joke into a hidden skill. It all began 2 years ago when I nominated myself to sit behind the drum kit and learn one band song just because I thought it would be funny to see a petite girl behind the monstrous drum kit. Never in my life would I imagine me sat behind a drum kit... but now when you look at me it's as if I've swallowed my inner diva and vomited my inner SheHulk whenever on stage and playing the drums. I suppose my love for dancing has contributed to the ease I get when learning new things on the big kit.
